Across the board, this implementation exceeded expectations. The collaboration and teamwork demonstrated between our hospital, MEDITECH, and Tegria is truly outstanding. We are seeing the results of these teams working together over the past several months. There is trust, respect, and a unified goal of success. This is quite impressive to witness.

John Anderson, CEO, Anderson Regional Medical Center
Background and Challenge

With a future-focused mindset and need to keep pace with organizational growth, Anderson Regional Medical Center decided to migrate from the MEDITECH MAGIC EHR it had been using for 18 years to the MEDITECH 6.1 platform. The 400-bed healthcare system in eastern Mississippi provides the area’s first cardiovascular surgery program, a regional cancer center, a Level II NICU, and a Level III trauma center. Anderson’s leadership felt that MEDITECH’s READY implementation plan and solid integration history offered an ideal path to a fully integrated EHR. A looming CMS Meaningful Use deadline required an accelerated 15-month project timeline and creative measures for on-time completion of the project.

Solution

Anderson engaged Tegria to leverage the consultants’ deep experience with READY implementation. The Tegria project manager and a team of subject matter experts started by establishing structure and setting expectations for the migration with MEDITECH, then went to work developing the project road map, including the project plan, project charter, and governance model, as well as change management and communication plans to ensure the right people would get the right information at the right time. Throughout the project, Tegria worked closely with MEDITECH to identify opportunities to streamline implementation processes and ensure an on-time launch.

Results

With our MEDITECH 6.1 solution, we are already seeing workflow efficiencies, quality improvements, and improved financial performance reporting,” said Steve Taylor, Anderson’s CIO. “Together, we worked through the transformational process to reach our purpose—achieving a fully integrated EHR.” Results of the implementation included:

  • On-time launch
  • Meaningful use achievement
  • Improved clinical workflows
  • Efficiencies in revenue cycle workflows
  • Increased case mix index
  • Improved financial reporting
  • Streamlined processes to achieve business and patient care goals
